Cheek to Cheek (9470 words)
Stiles wanted to be independent; wanted to make his own way through pre-law and then law school. He didn’t expect getting naked on a stage two nights a week to help him get there.
Derek didn’t expect it either.
“I hadn’t planned this either! I just couldn’t not ask you anymore.” He reaches for one of the inside zipper pockets of his jacket, fingers still fumbling like Stiles has never seen before. When his hand re-emerges, he’s holding a tiny, dark blue box.

He looks at them all in turn, noting in particular Scott’s look of vague betrayal (like even though he and Derek have acclimated and are one pack Scott clearly still thinks Stiles should automatically side with him whenever the two of them disagree) and Derek’s look of surprise (like he’s thinking exactly the same as Scott).
"Well," Stiles clarifies, "you gotta remember how spectacularly awful all your other plans have been over the years. I mean, this is being graded on a significant curve. But it could work. I like it."

“You know, I’m starting to rethink that question,” Stiles grumbled, glaring at him playfully.
“- and somehow even with all of that,” Derek continued, “I still want you.”
